Introduction to Schulwerk (IS)
Participants actively explore the Orff media of singing, saying, dancing and playing. These sessions are designed for those new to the Orff Schulwerk approach. LIMIT 80

Lisa Sullivan was 2008 Carmel Clay Teacher of the Year in Carmel, Indiana. She teaches piano and is active in church music. Lisa holds degrees in music education and elementary administration and serves as region representative for the Indiana MEA. Lisa completed Curriculum and Master classes and teaches Level I.
Cyndee Giebler lives and teaches in Northeast Wisconsin. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and recently completed her master’s degree at the University of St. Thomas. She enjoys composing and arranging music for classroom use, children’s chorus, elementary strings and beginning band.
Joyce Stephansky has been teaching music for over 16 years; currently teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools and George Mason University. Joyce presents nationally on Orff process, special needs integration, and children’s literature and Orff Schulwerk. She also sings with the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
Szajnberg, Debby (# 253, 314)
Traditional Greek Dance
Experience asymmetrical meters and modal tonalities through two very different Greek dance traditions: Kalymnos and Pontos, taught through active listening and the Orff process.
Debby Szajnberg has taught movement for Orff Levels courses and for regional and national workshops. She has extensive training in world dance and music with particular expertise in Balkan and Eastern European folk traditions. As a kindergarten teacher, she specializes in integrating dance and music into the curriculum.

Judith Thompson-Barthwell teaches at Emerson School in Ann Arbor and has taught music and dance K-12. After completing levels training, she attended the year-long course at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria. Judy has taught Orff courses internationally and was a Contributing Author for the 2005 Silver Burdett Making Music.

Experience an active music-making session of folk songs loved by children and teachers.
II. Using Folk Songs as Paradigms for Improvisation
Learn techniques for using elemental rhythmic and melodic structures of accessible folk songs and singing games as paradigms for rhythmic and melodic improvisation in grades K-5.
Jill Trinka teaches music education courses at the Kodály Institute at the University of St.Thomas. She specializes in American folk music performance, and holds KodályCertification from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. She is an OAKEPastPresident and contributing author for Pearson/Scott Foresman Making Music.

Wendy Valerio is Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Children's Music Development Center (CMDC) at The University of South Carolina where she teaches graduate and undergraduate music methods courses and conducts early childhood music development research, previously sponsored by The Texaco Foundation and The Presser Foundation.
