Vance, Janie (# 294, 333)

Focus on creative ways to build a movement vocabulary. Examine how to use this vocabulary for youself and your students.

VanceJanie Vance has taught general/vocal/instrumental music K-12 for 11 years and currently teaches at The Town School in New York City. She has completed three levels and a master class in Orff Schulwerk. Ms. Vance has taught movement for several Orff Schulwerk teacher education courses.

Learn how music teachers can reach at-risk students, gain their trust and be effective educationally, socially and emotionally.

VestJohnathan Vest has been teaching music in the Nashville area for 11 years. He holds a Master's in Music from Middle Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Music Education from the University of Alabama. He currently teaches general music and directs the guitar and percussion ensembles at Cumberland Elementary.

WagnerShana Wagner teaches elementary music and has been involved in the Minnesota Orff chapter since 1972. She has levels training from the U of MN and Hamline U. She studied with Anne Green Gilbert, creator of the BrainDance™ and 5 Part Lesson Plan, attending the Brain-Compatible Dance Education Summer Dance Institute for Teachers in 2007 and 2008.

Wang, Jui-Ching (# 235, 345)

This session presents the Balinese gamelan music tradition including playing on authentic instruments and suggests ideas about using Orff instruments to play the traditional repertoire.

WangJui-Ching Wang, Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northern Illinois University, teaches music education, world music and directs the Indonesian gamelan ensemble. She has published articles in several journals including the International Journal of Music Education and has presented papers and workshops at state, national and international conferences.

Ran Whitley
is the chair for the Division of Fine Arts at Campbell University. He holds degrees from Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ran is the author of numerous articles and publications and has composed music for recorder and Orff instruments.
