AOSA Advocates

AOSA ADVOCACY COUNCIL
AOSA Advocates are outstanding artists from various fields who were invited to join the Council because of their interest in quality arts education for children and their contact with a large audience. They acknowledge the unique value of Orff Schulwerk as a group pedagogy for music learning, and agree to support it publicly. Each new advocate is welcomed and introduced at a national conference.

Paul Winter

Paul Winter is a saxophonist (alto, soprano), composer, and bandleader. His first group, the Paul Winter Sextet, was a highly successful jazz band. In the late 1960s the name changed to the Paul Winter Consort, which over the years has created a unique style and repertoire that reflects Paul’s ongoing interest in world music traditions and in the “greater symphony of the Earth,” including participation by wolves, whales, eagles, and a variety of other species. He founded Living Music as his recording company. The winner of six Grammy awards, he has at least 36 CDs to his credit, from solo issues to various collaborations. December 2009 marked the 30th year of his Winter Solstice Celebration at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City, now a secular holiday tradition for New York and for National Public Radio.  (see www.livingmusic.com)
Paul Winter was guest artist/presenter for two AOSA National Conferences: Minneapolis in 1992 and 2000 in Rochester. He is scheduled to participate in the 2010 Conference in Spokane.

The American Orff-Schulwerk Association is a professional organization dedicated to the creative teaching approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. We are united by our belief that music and movement – to speak, sing and play; to listen and understand; to move and create – should be an active and joyful experience.
